LEEF operates under the direction of an Executive Team that includes President, President-Elect, Immediate Past- President, Treasurer, and Secretary in addition to a six (6) Directors from across the state of Florida. New Board members are elected annually each spring pending their completion of associated terms.

Board Members at LEEF play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the organization. By utilizing their expertise, commitment, and passion, they contribute to LEEF's mission of building connections,  advancing environmental literacy and promoting environmental stewardship for Florida's environmental educators. As a board member, you will actively engage in decision-making, collaborate with fellow board members, and provide oversight to ensure the organization's values and objectives are upheld.



Key Responsibilities & Qualifications

The LEEF Board is a working and 100% giving board.  Members work collaboratively towards achieving LEEF's Mission to increase environmental literacy and promote environmental stewardship in Florida through environmental education.

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of LEEF's strategic plan and financial budget, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission, long-term goals, and fiscal management.
  • Participate in virtual and in-person board meetings, offering insights on critical decisions and initiatives.
  • Support fundraising efforts by leveraging personal networks, identifying potential donors or partners, and actively participating in fundraising events.
  • Act as an ambassador for LEEF, raising awareness about its mission and impact within the community. 
  • Contribute your expertise to relevant board committees as needed to address specific areas of focus. 

Terms & Compensation

Board members typically serve renewable terms, with each term lasting 1-3 years depending on the position.  Time commitment varies, with Board members typically serving approximately 7-10 hours per month.  This is a voluntary role without monetary compensation. However, it provides an invaluable opportunity to contribute to a significant cause and make a lasting impact on the environmental education community.

Founded in 1983, the League of Environmental Educators in Florida is the professional association for individuals and organizations dedicated to the cause of environmental education in Florida. We are the state affiliate for North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), an organization that brings together those interested in the study and enjoyment of our natural world and one that has promoted excellence in environmental education throughout North America and the world for over four decades.
