Team Wildlife aims to inspire and engage our Cast and Guests in conservation efforts that save species in the wild, especially in areas of business priority. Based in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, this role is integral to our efforts to deliver impact through action aligned with our local and global conservation strategies. Responsibilities:

• Develop, execute and evaluate conservation programs that drive behavior change solutions, inspire a global community, and engage diverse communities to take action for nature
• Advise/lead program development alongside internal/external collaborators focusing on community engagement, environmental justice, education, interpretation and behavior change.
• Provide strategic insight and evaluation for all Disney Conservation programs, supporting efforts to collect data, learn, adapt, and report on impact.
• Facilitate strategy discussions, focus groups and workshops aimed at expanding knowledge, collaboration and conservation outcomes.
• Contribute expertise and build relationships in support of Disney’s leadership role within the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
• Partner across The Walt Disney Company to maximize storytelling and synergy opportunities that help advance our conservation efforts and drive business results and reputation.
• Develop events, communications, assets, etc. to help expand storytelling opportunities that inspire and activate our audiences.
• Collaborate with the ASE Science team to ensure scientific credibility and advance applied conservation.
• Serve as a spokesperson for Disney’s conservation commitment with internal and external audiences.
• Provide expertise to support philanthropic investments through the Disney Conservation Fund.
• Publish the results of our scientific, social/conservation impact investigation in peer-reviewed journals.
• Manage and mentor direct reports and the projects they work on, supporting a culture of inclusion and belonging and an environment of lifelong learning.

Training & Education Coordinator

The CCI Training and Education Coordinator is part of the Stewardship and Field Programs Department (SAF) in The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Florida Chapter.  The position is associated with the Chapter’s Center for Conservation Initiatives (Center/CCI) which is managed by SAF. CCI is a state-wide center of excellence that focuses on supporting conservation through public outreach, education/training, science/strategy, and land stewardship programming at CCI campus preserves across Florida and through online resources and community engagement. CCI campus preserves are Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve, Disney Wilderness Preserve, Tiger Creek Preserve, and Blowing Rocks Preserve. This position reports to the SAF Department Director who also serves at the CCI Program Director. They will serve on the SAF leadership team. This position’s office location can be flexible (a CCI preserve, partner office, or work from a home office in FL).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The CCI Training and Education Coordinator develops and implements strategic conservation training and education programming for the Center for Conservation Initiatives (CCI) and ensures their work supports the Chapter’s and the Center’s missions. This position will focus on workforce development training as it relates to conservation stewardship practices (e.g. wildland fire, invasive species, restoration, etc.) and develops conservation education programming and materials in collaboration with CCI staff. They work closely with CCI staff and partners to identify training course needs, development, and delivery through in-person, online, or hybrid methods across Florida and beyond. They engage with outside agencies, academia, and NGOs to develop new training partnerships. Depending on their skills and training topic, they may serve as an instructor and/or cadre member with other staff and partners. This position requires travel in support of courses and partnerships. They identify and seek external funding for CCI training and education initiatives through grant opportunities and supports Chapter philanthropy efforts as needed.

The Environmental Education Coordinator’s (EEC) primary responsibilities include promoting awareness of and appreciation for nature, wildlife, conservation, ecology, and habitat restoration. The EEC employs interpretive, outreach and administrative skills to: (1) manage, design and implement CNCP’s educational and interpretive programs highlighting the natural and cultural features found on and around CNCP’s properties; (2) network with the community to develop and provide comprehensive environmental education and interpretive programs; (3) strengthen efforts to reach and provide environmental education-based programming and educational opportunities to diverse, under resourced, and underserved communities; (4) assist with the daily operations and coordination of facilities at CNCP’s natural history museum and planetarium, and wildlife exhibits; (5) provide program-based assistance to Volunteers and CNCP’s departments; and, (6) perform a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the organization.

1. First Nations Now Accepting Proposals for 2021 Native Youth and Culture Fund Grants
Deadline: August 19
First Nations Development Institute (First Nations) announced it is accepting proposals for the Native Youth and Culture Fund (NYCF) for programs that focus on youth and that support the perpetuation of traditional ecological knowledge, spirituality, and the intergenerational transfer of knowledge systems, resulting in compassion, respect, dignity, reverence for nature, and care for each other and the Earth. 2. Farmers Advocating For Organic (FAFO) Grant Program
Deadline: September 1
FAFO is a grant program funded entirely by voluntary contributions from Organic Valley farmers and is the largest farmer-funded grant program in the U.S. Through FAFO, Organic Valley farmers make a difference in the organic industry by using their own dollars to fund organic research, education and advocacy projects across the nation. FAFO awards grants of $5,000-$50,000 to research, education, and advocacy projects that protect and promote the organic industry and the livelihood of organic farmers. Within this context, FAFO puts an emphasis on projects that benefit family farmers who produce organic dairy, eggs, meat, produce, and grain/forage and projects that focus on organic soil health and biology. Learn more.

School Garden Leadership Training is VIRTUAL!

Florida Agriculture in the Classroom and UF/IFAS Family Nutrition Program are excited to launch the second year of this collaborative virtual training series designed to help educators, volunteers, and school garden support organizations throughout the state of all levels to build gardening confidence, foster collaboration among leaders, and strengthen garden programs for long-term success.

Each year, SeedMoney offers challenge grants to diverse food garden projects through a 30-day crowdfunding challenge running from Nov 15 to Dec 15. Our grants are open to all types of public food garden projects (youth gardens, community gardens, food bank gardens, etc.) regardless of their location.

The grants we offer are on a sliding scale. The size of a grant a project can receive depends on how much it is able to raise over the 30-day period compared to other projects participating in the challenge. This year, we will be offering a total of 370 grants ranging from $100 to $1000. See the graphic below for the distribution of those grants.

The School Garden Grants are meant to supplement FAITC’s Gardening for Grades, Gardening for Nutrition and STEMming Up Gardening, three books that take Florida teachers through the process of developing a school garden, and includes lessons to help teachers use the garden to teach health, science, language arts, math, technology, engineering and other subjects.
