Online applications for the 2021 “Seedlings for Schools Grant”
will be accepted March 1 – June 15, 2021.
The Florida Wildflower Foundation is optimistically opening online grant applications for the 2021 Seedlings for Schools grant program. The uncertainties in school openings created by the Covid pandemic forced our 2020 grant program to be postponed; but we are looking forward to working with our 2020 grant recipients as well as new schools that qualify in 2021.
Public and private pre-K to K-12 teachers in Florida may apply for this FWF grant which includes a collection of Florida wildflowers from a Florida Association of Native Nurseries member and online guidance on garden establishment from the Seedlings for Schools grant administrator.
Qualifying schools must have an existing garden area on campus and plans to use the garden to support STEM school curriculum.
Plants will be shipped to schools in September 2021 for fall planting.
Seedlings for Schools Grant Administrator Claudia Larsen reports “25 new grants will be awarded in 2021 and provide 12-15 small native ecotype wildflower plants to establish or enhance an existing school garden area. These plants are chosen to fit smaller garden spaces and to thrive year-round. Wildflower gardens can beautify school grounds, provide habitat for local butterflies and help connect corridor pathways for pollinators.”
Visit the Foundation’s grants page for more information and pictures of previous school wildflower gardens. The Seedlings for Schools new webinar is available after March 17 with detailed steps for grant applications and creating your school’s Florida native wildflower garden. https://www.youtube.com/user/flaWildflowers/playlists
