For more than 35 years, the Council for Environmental Education (CEE) has been a nationally recognized leader in environmental education, providing programs and services that promote responsible stewardship of natural resources. CEE is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1970.

Our mission is to provide programs and services that promote stewardship of the environment and further the capacity of learners to make informed decisions. To accomplish its mission, CEE supports programs and partnerships for environmental education. A hallmark of CEE’s programs is a commitment to balanced, non-biased environmental education. CEE’s programs are among the most long-lived and successful environmental education efforts in the nation.

Each year CEE's benchmark programs provide materials and training workshops to more than 50,000 educators across the nation who reach millions of young people with essential information about conservation and the environment.
Since Project WILD was introduced in 1983, more than 1,000,000 educators in the United States have participated in Project WILD workshops. Those educators, in turn, have provided instruction using Project WILD to more than 53 million youth.

New initiatives such as Science and Civics, WET in the City, Team WET Schools, Flying WILD and the new Bird Education Network (BEN) have expanded CEE’s distribution model to include urban partners with outreach to many underserved students and minority youth.
