
Coastal Wonders is a non-profit educational service dedicated to providing rewarding environmental learning experiences for regional school groups. With classes ranging from Estuary Studies to Happenin' Herps, Orienteering to Team Initiatives, Coastal Wonders participants engage in exploration and discovery to learn about the wonders of the coast and humanity's important connections to the earth.
This earth stewardship program is the newest offering of Beckwith Camp and Conference Center, a facility owned and operated by the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. Building upon a strong foundation of over three decades of experience with youth, Beckwith takes a leardership role in academic, character, and environmental education to proudly announce this premier residential learning adventure.
Located on 65 acres on beautiful Weeks Bay, Coastal Wonders invites regional schools to bring their students into the outdoor classroom where the ceiling is the sky and the floor a vast living world inviting exploration. Our school programming runs September through May each school year. We offer 1-day through 5-day learning adventures and a premier 3 day / 2 night program. Our classes are correlated to state course of study standards and reinforce classroom learning objectives. Small field group sizes of 10-15 students, help to ensure a rewarding experience for all. MissionThe Mission of Coastal Wonders Environmental Education Program is to promote the study and enjoyment of nature within dynamic Gulf Coast ecosystems in order to enhance academic learning, character education, and earth stewardship through hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences.
Cost of Programs/AdmissionPREMIER 3 Day / 2 Night Program:
$130 per student (includes 14.5 hrs of instruction, 7 delicious meals, and 2 nights of comfortable lodging). One, Two, Four, and Five Day Programs also Available. Call for Details!
FeaturesBeckwith Camp and Conference Center is situated on 65 acres of upland pine flatwoods and saltwater marsh along the edge of Weeks Bay. Weeks Bay estuary is the collecting basin for the 126,000 acre Weeks Bay watershed that stretches north of I-10 (as far north as Stapleton AL). Weeks Bay is Alabama’s best remaining unspoiled estuary.
Specific Locations ServedOpen to all public, private, and homeschool groups from FL, AL, MS and surrounding areas. Our curriculum is designed for 3rd through 8th grade students and correlated to Alabama state standards. However, we will work with your group to meet your program needs.
